Colorado Humanities’ Writers in the Schools program pairs professional writers with K-12 school students and their teachers for intensive writing training for 9-12 weeks. For the Pulitzer model of this project, a resident writer will introduce students in three Grand Junction High School classrooms to Pulitzer Prize winners and finalists who have written about the West as living space in works of nonfiction, fiction, poetry and journalistic writing. The resident writer and teacher also collaborate on news literacy training. Publication of student writing in each genre and visual art created by GJHS students will be included in a print anthology and in optional videos to be released to the public in early May 2016.
