Barbara Davidson on Fake News and the Act of Seeing

Hosted by the University of North Texas
Barbara Davidson (L.A. Times)

Three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Barbara Davidson will be featured on a panel on photojournalism at the University of North Texas on Oct. 4 titled, "Seeing and Believing in the Age of Fake News: Finding Truth in Visual Journalism."

The panel will cover topics ranging from fake news to the ethics of witnessing in journalism, and also will feature photojournalists Lisa Krantz, Keith Jenkins, Eric Gray, and Spike Johnson.

Barbard Davidson is known for her jarring work on victims of gang violence in Los Angeles, and was a staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times for 10 years. Her work draws an intimate portrait of how whole communities can be affected by street violence in places such as South Los Angeles, Compton and Watts.

Hosted by the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism, the discussion will be accompanied by a separate photo exhibition near the venue. This event is part of the Democracy and the Informed Citizen Intiative sponsored by the Federation of State Humanities Councils. This initiative aims to deepen the public's relationship with democracy and the humanities.
