Celebrating 50 Years of Prize-Winning Editorial Cartooning
Ed Williams, editor of The Charlotte Observer editorial pages for 25 years before his retirement in 2008, will provide a brief history of 50 years of editorial cartooning at The Charlotte Observer. His talk will cover the work of Gene Payne (1968), Doug Marlette (1988), and Kevin Siers (2014), as well as a brief look at one of the most shameful examples of cartooning, drawn straight from North Carolina history. Williams will then moderate a conversation between current Observer editorial page editor Taylor Batten, and Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Siers, who will do some cartooning as he discusses his work.
