'The Color Purple'
The Tony-winning musical revival of "The Color Purple" comes to New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse for the fall season. Based on the original 1983 Pulitzer-winning novel by Alice Walker, the musical revival has received critical acclaim, having won two Tony awards and a Grammy award.
The New York Times labeled it "A miracle on Broadway. A glory to behold!" and New York Magazine similar slated it as the "one of the greatest revivals ever." Adrianna Hicks, Carla R. Stewart and Carrie Compere all reprise their roles from the original 2015 Broadway revival, and the cast is rounded out by Darnell Abraham, Amar Atkins and Kyle E. Baird. Director John Doyle also has worked on productions "A Catered Affair" and "Sweeney Todd," winning a 2006 Tony award for the latter.
"The Color Purple" depicts the life of African-American women in the South and the numerous social issues they must overcome. The original novel remains as a lasting classic for its unabashed portrayal of family and race.
Performances will run from September 26th to October 21. For information and to purchase tickets, click here.
