Copland & Vivaldi

Hosted by the Des Moines Symphony
1945 Music winner Aaron Copland conducts. (WNYC)

Des Moines Symphony musicians Andrew Bishop and Andrew Classen feature in Vivaldi’s sparkling "Concerto for Two Trumpets," plus Copland’s idyllic "Appalachian Spring."

Our November concert opens with Handel’s majestic "Entrance of the Queen of Sheba" from Solomon and 1996 Music Prize winner George Walker’s serene "Lyric for Strings." Principal Trumpet Andrew Bishop and Second Trumpet Andrew Classen feature in Vivaldi’s sparkling, brilliant "Concerto for Two Trumpets"; finally, Copland’s idyllic, inspiring "Appalachian Spring." This 1945 Music Prize-winning composition evokes images of open fields and endless possibilities, finding peace and tranquility in "the valley of love and delight."
