The Cost of Violence with prize-winning photographers

Hosted by 29 Pieces and The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

This special evening, featuring five Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers and one winner of the International Women’s Media Foundation Award, will provide a platform to launch a powerful community dialogue on the toll of violence and war. These photojournalists have captured indeli- ble images that have shaped our understanding of world events and the continuing impact of these events on the present. This special program will include a panel discussion, along with readings and performances by Dallas artists from Pulitzer Prize winning books and theatrical productions (South Pacific and Hamilton). The panel will be moderated by Karen Blessen, Founder and Executive Artis- tic Director of 29 Pieces. Ms. Blessen is the first artist to be named as a winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

Carol Guzy, has won the Pulitzer Prize four times—1986 and 1995 Pulitzer Prizes for Spot News Photography, 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, and 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for images including the 1994 Haitian coup and ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. Guzy is one of four people – and the only journalist – to win the Pulitzer four times.

Heidi Levine, 2015 International Women’s Media Foundation’s inaugural “Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award” for coverage of Israeli-Palestinian tensions in Gaza. Levine has covered revolutions in Egypt, Libya, and Syria, the Israeli-Lebanon War, and the lives of female American soldiers in the U.S. Iraq War.

Karen Blessen, 1989 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Journalism, the first artist to be named as a Pulitzer Prize winner. Ms. Blessen is the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of 29 Pieces.
