Restoring Civic Duty and Civility: A Conversation with Cindy McCain, Heidi Heitkamp and Anne Applebaum

Hosted by the Renew Democracy Initiative and the McCain Institute
2004 General Nonfiction winner Anne Applebaum. (Yale University)

The election may be over, but we are more polarized than we've ever been. In the 1960 presidential election, just 10% of political ads were negative; in 2012, only 14% were positive. It often feels like half the country simply cannot relate to the other half. Where do we go from here? How can we reintroduce hope and a sense of belonging?

The Renew Democracy Initiative and the McCain Institute are excited to host three incredible women to discuss these questions and think about how we can move forward.

McCain Institute Chair Cindy McCain and RDI Board member Heidi Heitkamp are prominent members of opposing political parties, but have never let that get in the way of their friendship. They have worked tirelessly to mend the divides tearing our nation apart and we look forward to learning more about their unique friendship as we discuss how to make cross-partisan friendships a reality.

Join us on Monday, November 23rd at 12 p.m. EST for a conversation that gets more important with each passing day. The discussion will be moderated by 2004 General Nonfiction winner and RDI Board member Anne Applebaum.
