Michael Gartner was a well-established journalist when he became co-owner of the Ames Tribune in the 1980s. He helped put the paper on the national scene in 1997 when editorials he wrote about community issues won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing. The IowaWatch Connection sat down with Gartner, who also was a longtime member of the Pulitzer Prize Board, to talk about Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism nationally and in Iowa.
