Houston-based Horse Head Theatre will finish its ninth season with a run of the Pulitzer-winning play The Flick by Annie Baker. It will mark the first time The Flick is staged in Houston.

The Flick follows three employees, Rose, Sam and Avery, at a run-down movie theater as they maintain the halls and run one of the last 35 mm film projectors in their state. The humorous clashing of the employees plays out against the glamorous backdrop of the Hollywood movies they screen, and Baker uses her play as a character sketch of three authentic, not-so-Hollywood-glamorous people. The Horse Head Theatre run will star Avery Padilla, Greg Cote and Antonio Lasanta. Baker's other acclaimed plays include Circle Mirror Transformation and The Aliens

The New York Times wrote of The Flick, "Ms. Baker is a master miniaturist chasing big themes — love and loyalty; kindness and cruelty; fantasy and reality. ... The dialogue is uncannily, you-are-there authentic."
