Tyehimba Jess To Read His Work in Seattle
Tyehimba Jess, 2017 poetry prize winner, will be reading his work in Seattle on Oct. 6 at the Erickson Theater. Hosted by Gramma, an independent poetry press, the event also will feature readings by Kaveh Akbar and Anastacia-Renee and a performance by Au Collective.
Jess won the prize in 2017 for his work "Olio," published by Wave Books. "Olio" is Jess' second work and blends lyric, narrative, prose and sonnet to revisit the histories of African-American artists and performers pre- and post-Civil War. His first work, "leadbelly," won the 2004 National Poetry Series. Jess recently was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018 and is currently a professor at College of Staten Island.
