William Allen White: The Kansas of His Time

William Allen White with political ally Theodore Roosevelt. The "Sage of Emporia" and Advisory Board member (1937-1943) received Pulitzer Prizes in Editorial Writing and Biography in addition to a special award; the latter two were conferred posthumously.

University of Kansas professor emeritus Jack Wright will provide an "informance" that explores the life and times of the great editor of the Emporia Gazette, who was Kansas' first winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Part of a season-long celebration of 100 Years of the Pulitzer Prizes and 100 Years of the Baldwin City Library.

The Pulitzer Project in Kansas: William Allen White and Freedom of Speech is a joint venture of the Kansas Humanities Council, the Pulitzer Prizes Board, and the Federation of State Humanities Councils in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Pulitzer Prizes.
