Biographer William Taubman on 'Gorbachev: His Life and Times'
Biographer and Betrand Snell Professor of Political Science William Taubman will speak at Johann Fust Community Library in Boca Grande, FL on Nov. 15. Taubman will focus mainly on his latest work, a biography detailing the life of Mikhail Gorbachev titled Gorbachev: His Life and Times.
This new work focuses on the last leader of the Soviet Union's early life, liberal policies, and hand in the dissolution of the USSR. Having interviewed Gorbachev multiple times himself, the biography draws on an exhaustive list of sources ranging from interviews, transcripts, and other resources from Russian archives.
Taubman won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for his biography of Nikita Khrushchev, Khrushchev: The Man and His Era. The first comprehensive biography of the Soviet leader, Taubman detailed the controversial legacy of Khrushchev as a figure who encompassed many of the Soviet-era themes and qualities.
