Historian Steven Hahn and 'A Nation Without Borders'

Hosted by Genesee Community College
Steven Hahn

New York University professor and Pulitzer board member Steven Hahn will give a talk about his latest book, "A Nation Without Borders: the United States and Its World in an Age of Civil Wars, 1830-1910," at Genesee Community College on Oct. 3.

The book critically revisits the colonial and imperial practices of the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries, shining essential new views on the Civil War and American consciouness. Hahn won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 2004 for his book, "A Nation Under Our Feet: Black Political Struggles in the Rural South from Slavery to the Great Migration." "A Nation Under Our Feet" reconsiders black power and organization in the age of slavery, and how this motivated change during Reconstruction and beyond.

Hahn was previously a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and has won numerous awards, including the Bancroft Prize and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship. Hahn was also a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board from 2012 to 2018.

Hahn will be available for book signings following the presentation. For more information, click here
