A Night of Female Pulitzer-Winning Composers

Three of eight female winners of the Pulitzer Prize in Music will be spotlighted this Saturday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Featuring performances by local musicians and video interviews with the composers, this evening will be both energetic and inspirational for classical music fans young and old. 

Julia Wolfe won the 2015 Prize in Music for Anthracite Fields, and her 2001 piece Compassion will be featured this weekend. Her inspirations range from folk to rock music, and she's composed for organizations such as the New York Philharmonic and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Wolfe is known for bringing a modern sensibility to traditional genres with a singular precision.  

Caroline Shaw won the 2013 Prize in Music for Partita for 8 Voices, and her 2009 string quartet Punctum will be highlighted. Shaw has written three film scores, premiered work with the Seattle Symphony, and produced for both Kanye West and Nas. She has also sang three-part harmony with Sara Bareilles and Ben Folds, cementing her status as a Renaissance woman of the industry.

Jennifer Higdon won the 2010 Prize in Music for her Violin Concerto, and her 2003 Piano Trio will be performed. Higdon boasts five Grammy nominations and two wins, along with the International Opera Award for Best World Premiere for Cold Mountain. She performs over 200 times per year and is featured on over 60 CDs, showcasing a much deserved following.
