This program will discuss the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service won by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger in 1983 for its coverage of education reform in Mississippi, as well as the crucial role played by national journalists during the Civil Rights Movement.
Overby and Anklam played crucial roles in coverage of education reform while working for the Jackson newspaper. Hank Klibanoff wrote the Pulitzer-winning history book The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation, while Dr. McLemore was a young civil rights activist during the 1960s.
